Overview: OS081H new generation digital high-frequency ground wave radar is a innovative full digital high-frequency ground wave radar successfully developed by the No.724 Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation by making use of its great radar technical power and the special radar signal processing technical achievements reached in its long-term research and production of military radars and by giving a full play to the digitization and software radio technologies. The high-frequency ground wave radar is also called as HF Surface Wave Radar. It extends the BVR detections to the marine environment (such as the marine dynamical parameters about wind, wave, current, etc.) by utilizing the characteristic of high-frequency electromagnetic wave of diffraction along the sea water surface with  high electrical conductivity. The detection distance of a high-frequency ground wave radar depends on its capacity to detect the echoed signals, and it can be over 400km at the furthest.

When transmitting along the sea water surface, the high-frequency electromagnetic wave transmits along the earth surface in the form of creeping while being scattered due to its interactions with the waves and targets on the sea. By utilizing the equation of scattering cross section of marine echoed wave that established based on the Doppler spectrum of the received backward scatter echoes of waves and Barrick, marine environment information such as ocean current, wave height and wind field can be obtained, thus realizing the monitoring to marine environment.

Compared with the existing similar radars at home and abroad, OS081H radar gives a full play to the superiority of digitization technology and software radio technology and to its better electric properties. The system of such crucial performance indicators as system flexibility, dynamic range and signal-to-noise performance are improved comprehensively, the equipment’s signal quality and detection capacity are enhanced remarkably, and the radar’s capacity of resisting disturbance and reliability become more powerful. As the first-ever new type digital high-frequency ground wave radar in China, OS081H radar is a leading domestic product and reaches the internationally advanced standards.

Properties:

l        Increase the timeliness and accuracy of the forecasts of marine disasters such as storm tides, typhoons, red tides and abnormal water quality;

l        Provide references for marine management, marine planning, marine functional zone planning and exploitation of the tourism resources;

l        Provide environmental parameters for marine production activities like maritime engineering and oil & gas works;

l        Use for monitoring and management and marine scientific research, etc.;

(2) Technical properties

l        The radio frequency is subject to direct sampling based on full digitization and software radio technologies so as to avoid various kinds of additional interferences caused by the analog processing methods. The system’s detection performance is excellent;

l        The generalized hardware platform can promptly change the working parameters online, thereby meeting the detection needs for the near, medium and far measurement ranges and accuracy and realize the joint detections of marine environment and sea targets;

l        Thanks to the digital frequency conversion technology, the system can work in a set of multiple frequency and has a great capacity of resisting external disturbance; and

l        The single board integrated sixteen-channel digital array receiver integrates such functions as signal integration, receiving and processing, so there is the less signal interconnections and switching and the system reliability is therefore very high.

(3) System indicators

1) Flow field detection

l        Range resolution: 0.625km/1.25km/2.5km/5km.

l        Root mean square error: flow velocity: ≤3cm/s (the intermediate range between two stations) /3-6cm /s (others); flow direction: ≤±10°

2) Wave field detection

l        Detection range/acquisition rate: 75km/90%, 125km/75% or 175km/50% (maximum detection range: 250Km)

l        Measurement range: wave height: 010m; wave direction: 0360°; wave cycle: 0-15s;

l        Root mean square error: wave height ± (0.5m plus 10% of the measured value); wave direction: ≤ ±10°; wave cycle: ≤ ±0.5s.

3) Wind field detection

l        Root mean square error: wind speed ≤ ± (2m/s plus 10% of the measured value); wind direction: ≤ ±15° (when the wind speed of steady-state wind field is greater than 3m/s).

l        Measurement range: wind direction 0360°; wind speed: 575m/s; and

l        Detection range/probability: 75km/90%, 100km/75% or 125km/50% (maximum detection range: 150Km).
