Overview: The fixed 724XD type X-band pulse Doppler weather radar is a Doppler radar based on medium-frequency coherent system. Absorbing and employing lots of crucial technologies of military radars, it is a real Doppler weather radar. It is mainly used to affect weather artificially and forecast short-term weather accurately. It can detect not only the height, thickness, bottom elevation and internal water content of a precipitation cloud but the flow field radial component of a precipitation cloud and the air current and turbulent flow active regions in a storm. In addition, it has the functions of real-time detection and warning of catastrophic weather such as the medium and small-sized storms, hails, powerful wind shear, cyclones, tornadoes and gales. The diversifying meteorological product data created by the system can realize the distant transmission through a network and be in conformity with the meteorological product data code specified by the China Meteorological Administration.

Compared with the ordinary weather radars, 724XD type X-band pulse Doppler weather radar possesses an extra Doppler velocity measurement function and more meteorological products; and it almost possesses all functions of indexes of the coherent Doppler weather radars. It is a piece of hardware with a relatively lower cost and realizes the Doppler velocity measurement function with the help of complicated technical measures. With advantages of high integration degree, small volume, light weight, good reliability and availability for both fixed mounting on ground and mobile application on vehicles and vessels, it can be extensively applied to the weather stations at all levels.
